Each week, the guys will answer a tough question from a producer. Let the debate begin. Question: Which team is most likely to beat the Steelers if any: Jets, Dolphins or Rams?
John: The St. Louis Rams have a shot to beat the Steelers.First of all, the Steelers will be coming off a short week of work because it's a Thursday night game. And the Steelers will have just played Jacksonville, a very physical defense that could punish the Steelers and beat them up.The Rams have a high-powered offense when it's hitting on all cylinders. The game is also a Thursday night nationally televised game and that will help motivate St. Louis even though the game means nothing to the Rams record-wise.The Rams will prepare for the game like a playoff game.In other words, let's show the world we can beat one of the league's best.I think it's a dangerous game for the Steelers.Alby: I think Sunday’s game will be a huge challenge for the Steelers. The Jets have struggled all season, but they’re very capable of pulling the upset. That’s especially true at home, where they won their only game of the season.Among the 8 losses for the Jets is a 7-point loss to Cincinnati. In that game, Chad Pennington threw 3 TD passes. The Jets are in the bottom third of the league in both passing yards and rushing yards. The Miami Dolphins are also down and winless in nine games.Willie Parker has almost as many yards as the top two rushers for the Dolphins.Ricky Williams was reinstated on Wednesday, but the season’s already a lost cause in Miami. The Rams have two western Pennsylvania quarterbacks.Marc Bulger starred at Pittsburgh’s Central Catholic while Gus Frerotte was a standout at Ford City HS.The Rams are in the middle of the pack in passing, but they’re near the bottom in rushing.Bottom line, of the Jets, Dolphins and Rams, I think the Jets have the best shot of beating the Steelers, especially this week.Former Pittsburgh City League star and future Hall of Famer Curtis Martin will be honored on Sunday. It’s Curtis Martin Day, and the Jets have a chance to rally around their former star by beating the team he grew up watching.I think the Steelers will win, but not without a fight.Rich: I think the Steelers will roll on the road in New York against the Jets and demoralize Joey Porter and the Dolphins at home the following week.I do think they will have trouble in St. Louis on December 20th.If they lose to one of those three teams it will be St. Louis. Mark Bulger has had success against the hometown team and would want nothing more than to do it again. The Rams have struggled this year but they have struggled without their biggest stars in the line up.Bulger is getting healthy and so is their dynamic running back Stephan Jackson. With those two on offense it could turn into a shoot out and if that happens hopefully Ben, Willie and Hines and company can keep up.I think they will and I think the Steelers will win but it will be another win like the Cleveland game on November 11th.Bill: I expect the Steelers to beat the Jets, Dolphins and Rams.Nobody beats the Steelers at home on a Monday night. The last time it happened was 16 years ago.So don't look for the Dolphins to do it on November 26th.What about the Rams? They were my first pick of the three, but that close to the end of the season and the Steelers very likely playing for a playoff bye I just don't see the Steelers stumbling even on a Thursday night! That leaves the J-E-T-S....Jets, Jets, Jets!New York has a few things going for it despite the fact that they own a 1-and-8 record, they are coming off of a bye week so they had extra time to get ready for the Steelers and the Steelers just finished a three week stretch of divisional games that were emotionally charged so the Steelers could come out flat. The Jets also have a great kick returner in Leon Washington, and as we all know the Steelers kick coverage teams have not been a strength this year, but it won't be enough. The Jets may have the best chance but it isn't much of one, look for the Steelers to pick up wins over not only the Dolphins and Rams but the J-E-T-S as well!
