The Steelers have terminated the contract of veteran wide receiver Cedrick Wilson. The team made the announcement the morning after Wilson was arrested on assault charges.

Wilson, who was entering his eighth NFL season, signed with the Steelers on March 8, 2005 as an unrestricted free agent from the San Francisco 49ers. In three seasons with the Steelers Wilson caught 81 passes for 1,162 yards and two touchdowns.

Dan Rooney's Statement:

Steelers chairman Dan Rooney released this statement regarding Wilson's release and his arrest, "We're extremely disappointed with this incident. The Steelers do not condone violence of any kind, especially against women. The majority of our players are good citizens and make numerous positive contributions to the community. "Unfortunately these kind of incidents reflects poorly on all of our players and many innocent and good people are considered guilty by association, they get thrown into the pot, so to speak."

Wilson's Arrest:

Steelers wide receiver Cedric Wilson is a free man Thursday morning.

He was let out of jail after paying a $10,000 cash bond following another alleged incident with his ex-girlfriend.

Wilson spent almost eight hours in jail after being arrested by police in his Pine Township home. He had been charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. Wilson made no comments to the judge during the video arraignment.

The arrest came after police said Wilson walked into the Patron's Mexican Grill Restaurant in Pine Township around 8 p.m. Wednesday and saw his ex-girlfriend Lindsey Paulat sitting at a bar with another friend.

Police allege Wilson pushed Paulat on the shoulder and punched her in the face. He then took off in a silver Mercedes and went home. Restaurant workers said Paulat suffered swelling on her left cheek and they gave her ice.

Wilson faces a preliminary hearing on March 28 before a Hampton magistrate.

This is not the first time Cedric Wilson and his ex-girlfriend have made headlines. In January, Paulat was involved in a 12-hour standoff with police at Wilson's home in Pine Township.

Police charged Paulat with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly shooting a handgun during the standoff with police. The charges were later amended to a single felony weapons count.
