NFL Rule Change Could Affect Troy Polamalu's Hair

Posted: 6:20 pm EDT March 25, 2008Updated: 7:00 pm EDT March 25, 2008

The Steelers' Troy Polamalu may need a trip to the barber before the start of next season.

The NFL is considering a rule change that would ban players from exposing long hair on the field.

It would be part of the uniform requirement that would prohibit a player from wearing hair long enough to obscure his name on the back of his jersey.

Kansas City is pushing for the change, after it was flagged for a personal foul on a 2006 tackle.

Players would be forced to choose between cutting their hair short, or figuring out a way to stuff it inside their helmets throughout the game.

VOTE: Should NFL Limit Players' Hair Length?

All 32 teams will vote on the proposed rule change next month. There has been no word on what Troy plans to do, if it is approved.

The Steelers told Channel 11 they have no comment on the proposed rule.
