PITTSBURGH -- Channel 11 News reporter Gordon Loesch is traveling with the Pens to Detroit. Check back here as he tells you what is happening in the motor city.
Saturday 5/24 -- 2:35PM
We're in our second day in the motor city, and now we're running into all kinds of Pens fans. Most made the trip this morning....some will be driving back right after the game...these are serious fans.We talked to a family from Pittsburgh who doesn’t even have tickets; they just wanted to be part of the atmosphere. We also met some guys who are among ten firefighters from Mount Lebanon who came together. They said tickets were so much cheaper here as opposed to Pittsburgh, they couldn't pass up the opportunity. It’s a beautiful day here, and the fact that Joe Louis arena is right on the Detroit River with a fabulous boardwalk, Pittsburgh visitors have a lot to take in.Traffic might be a nightmare after the game...the tigers are also playing tonight, and there’s a big electronic music festival next door. The Pistons are also playing at home in the playoffs, but their arena is about 30 miles north. Nevertheless, lots of distractions for Detroit sports fans while Pittsburgh is focused on the pens!!!We're going to start editing our 6pm now, while we wait for Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to arrive for a quick interview with us.
