Blackhawks Sign Versteeg For Three Years

(Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with left wing Kris Versteeg on a three-year contract.

Versteeg, 23, was named to the All-Rookie Team as he led all first-year players with 31 assists while ranking second with 53 points and fourth with 22 goals in 78 regular-season games with the Blackhawks. Also, he added four goals and eight assists in 17 playoffs games.

His efforts led to him being named a finalist for the Calder Trophy this past season, which was won by Columbus goaltender Steve Mason.

"Kris' tremendous rookie season was a big reason the team was able to go as far as it did," said Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon. "He is part of a core of young players that is going to make this franchise successful for a long time."
