It's just a rumor, but it's a rumor that has been reported by multiple media outlets, including Pro Hockey Talk.
Canadian hockey reporter Elliotte Friedman said Friday on Calgary's Sportsnet 960 that "people around the league" have said they've heard rumors about Penguins star Evgeni Malkin being unhappy in Pittsburgh and that Malkin "would welcome a change of scenery."

However, Friedman added that he doesn't believe a trade of this magnitude would occur while current ownership is looking into the possibility of selling the franchise.
Pro Hockey Talk speculated that since Malkin and Sidney Crosby account for two of the highest salary cap hits in the National Hockey League, trading away Malkin might make sense since it would result in much-needed financial flexibility.
