Pirates select infielder with 22nd pick in draft

The Pirates selected infielder Will Craig with the 22nd overall pick in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the team announced Thursday.

Craig hit .379 with 16 home runs and 66 RBIs in 55 games as a junior at Wake Forest University. He also went 2-0 with nine saves and 3.54 ERA in 19 relief appearances this season.

The 21-year-old was named one of five finalists for the 2016 Dick Howser Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in collegiate baseball. He's also a semifinalist for the 2016 Golden Spikes Award, which is given to the top amateur player in the United States.

With the 41st overall selection, the Pirates selected left-handed pitcher Nick Lodolo.

Lodolo, 18, was a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game first-team All-American. He attended Damian High School in La Verne, California.

In the second round, the team chose right-handed pitcher Travis MacGregor.

He attended East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs, Florida and was a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game honorable mention All-American selection.
