Mike Tomlin speaks at training camp for last time; talks national anthem, player outlook

LATROBE, Pa — Coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media for the last time at Saint Vincent College during this year’s training camp Friday and said Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown will not play.

He also talked about being "excited" to watch first round pick TJ Watt continue his development, but would not address the players across the NFL protesting during the national anthem or the events in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Channel 11’s Chase Williams spoke with Tomlin.

He asked Tomlin if he at least understands the reasoning for the protests.

"I have no reaction. You know, a lot of people have personal opinions, and it's just that -- it's personal opinions. If I don't think mine adds any value to the discussion, I will keep it to myself and not add it to the fray."

Josh Dobbs will make his second-straight start, but hopes to improve on his, well, start and not throwing a couple interceptions like he did last week.

"Yea you come out ready to prepare, with the same intensity," Dobbs said. "Start getting in a rhythm and you'll find the completions early and then go from there."

James Conner is set to make his debut after working his way back from a shoulder injury.

"I'm going to give him as much as he can handle," Tomlin said. "It's a conditioning thing."
