Report: Steelers plan to release Mike Mitchell, free up cap space

The Steelers could be making more moves to free up cap space as they continue to negotiate a long-term deal with Le’Veon Bell.

Ian Rapoport reports the Steelers are expected to release safety Mike Mitchell next week. That would clear $5 million in salary cap space.

Rapoport also reported that the team is open to bringing Mitchell back for less money.

Friday afternoon Mitchell tweeted what could be a telling message. It said, “It is what it is.” It’s unclear if Mitchell was referring to any contract situation or something else all together.

Earlier this week Antonio Brown restructured his contract in order to free up salary cap space.
