Rookie Josh Dobbs will start in preseason opener against Giants, Tomlin says

LATROBE, Pa. — Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown will not take part in Friday's preseason opener against the New York Giants, according to Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. Rookie Josh Dobbs will get the start for the Steelers.

"I'm excited for the opportunity," Dobbs said. "Looking forward to competing at the highest level. It's something I've always dreamed of."

Drafted in the fourth round, Dobbs is getting the nod due to Landry Jones abdominal strain.

"Someone else's misfortune is another's opportunity," Tomlin said. "I hate to say it, but it's the way it is."

Injuries continue to plague the Steelers in the early part of training camp and it was clear that Tomlin is frustrated with the amount of people missing practices.

"There is urgency," he said. "Guys need to get on the field."

Martavis Bryant could be making his return to the field within the next couple days according to a report that surfaced after Tomlin's press conference.

"I"m waiting just like you guys are," Tomlin said. "There's value in practice and that's why we're all waiting eagerly."

Bryant continued to work by himself on an auxiliary field and looked great going in and out of routes.

Once he is fully reinstated by the NFL, the Steelers will only be waiting for Le'Veon Bell to report to St. Vincent College. Tomlin said he has kept in constant communication with his All-Pro running back, but didn't want to expand on their conversations.
