Steelers trim roster to 79 as NFL deadline looms

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster has been trimmed to 79 players, four more than the NFL’s mandated 75-man roster that must be met later this week, the team announced Sunday.

Linebackers Jordan Zumwalt and Mike Reilly were released, along with wide receivers Issac Blakeney and Levi Norwood, tight end Michael Cooper, defensive end Giorgio Newberry, defensive tackle Khaynin Mosley-Smith, cornerback Julian Whigham and punter Will Monday.

Offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins has been placed on the Reserve/Injured List and quarterback Dustin Vaughan has been Waived/Injured, the Steelers announced.

The deadline for the Steelers to reduce its roster to 75 players is 4 p.m. Tuesday.
