Women's gymnastics team wins back-to-back gold medals

RIO DE JANEIRO — It's back-to-back Olympic gold medals for the U.S. women's gymnastics team! They lived up to the hype as the top team in Rio de Janeiro.

From the first rotation, the U.S. women were in the lead, and they never looked back.

Loud chants of "U.S.A" could be heard in Rio Olympic Arena as the gymnasts completed their final rotation, securing the gold.

  • Third rotation - balance beam 46.866
  • Fourth rotation - floor exercise 45.999

Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman dubbed themselves "The Final Five." They're the final team to compete under the guidance of legend Marta Karolyi.

Also, starting with the Tokyo games in 2020, each country will only be permitted to send four women.

Team Russia took silver and Team China went home with the bronze.

The women's team has been on a winning streak. Since winning team gold in London in 2012, Team USA won team gold at the world championships in 2011, 2014 and 2015. No event was held in 2013.

The women's all-around final is Thursday. Simone Biles and Aly Raisman will represent the United States.
