Gold medalist Jessie Diggins voted US flag bearer for Olympics closing ceremony

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — Cross-country gold medalist Jessie Diggins has been voted by her fellow Team USA athletes to be the U.S. flag bearer during Sunday’s Winter Olympics closing ceremony.

The announcement was made Friday morning on the "Today" show.

“I really thought there maybe had been a mistake. It is so humbling, and I feel so honored to have been picked,” Diggins said.

Diggins and her teammate Kikkan Randall won the first-ever gold for Team USA in cross-country skiing. They shocked Norway and Sweden by winning the women's team sprint in PyeongChang.
