PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers selected defensive tackle Javon Hargrave from South Carolina State Friday night as the 89th overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft.
Hargrave, 23, joins the team's first round pick cornerback Artie Burns and second round pick defensive back Sean Davis.
Below are some notes from the 6-foot-2, 305-pound defensive tackle's career that were highlighted by the Steelers:
2015 SEASON
Recorded 59 total tackles (43 solo) and 22.0 tackles for loss with 13.5 sacks in 11 games.
2014 SEASON
Amassed 55 tackles (47 solo) and led the nation for the most tackles for losses (23.5) and sacks (16.0) en route to earning Defensive Player of the Year honors in the MEAC.
2013 SEASON
Started all 13 games, earning All-MEAC second-team honors…finished fifth on the defense with 51 tackles (27 solo) to go along with 12.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, five quarterback hits, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
2012 SEASON
Played in and started all 11 games as a true freshman…tallied 45 tackles (26 solo), with 4.5 tackles for loses and 2.0 sacks.
HIGH SCHOOL
Earned four letters in football and basketball, and one in track…garnered All-State and All-County accolades in football and named Defensive Player of the Year twice…was all-state in basketball and Player of the Year as a Junior and a member of the 2011 basketball state championship team.
