Sunshine and lots of excitement on hand for Skylights Media Day

PITTSBURGH — Sunshine and lots of excitement were on hand Tuesday for a Channel 11 tradition to celebrate high school football.

Skylights Media Day, sponsored by Kings Family Restaurant was Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Heinz Field.

Four months from now, Heinz Field will host four high school football championships.

But Tuesday, approximately 65 high school teams and cheer leading squads were on hand to kick off another season of Skylights.

WPXI-TV invited all WPIAL and City League high school football teams and cheer leading squads to attend.

"It's great to play under the lights in front of tons of people, you just feel the excitement home or away," said Ross Anderson, quarterback for Hampton High School.

Area teams won't be able to practice in pads for another month.

The high school athletes were also treated to a visit from two professional players: Steelers cornerback Ross Cockrell and linebacker Arthur Moats. They both had advice for the younger players.

"Any time we're able to come and give some advice, some words of encouragement that can make a difference you know in a person's life, I was very thankful to be able to be here," Moats said.

Other event sponsors include the Army, CCBC, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Marines and Navy.
