Jessica Fera

Jessica Fera joined WPXI.com as an Internet Multimedia Specialist and Video Journalist in 2007.   Jessica produces original content for WPXI.com.   Some of that content includes interviewing celebrities and covering events for the See & Be Seen entertainment section.   This section takes Pittsburghers to many of the fun things happening around the city.

Over the years, Jessica has visited the movie sets of "Unstoppable," starring Denzel Washington, and "Riddle," starring Val Kilmer, traveled to Los Angeles to cover of the story of Pittsburgh-native Jackie Evancho on "America's Got Talent," and interviewed stars including Cindy Crawford, Conan O'Brien and Martha Stewart.

Jessica also produces news, sports and high school content for WPXI.com. She created and produces the popular Pittsburgh's Best section which asks viewers to vote for their favorite local restaurants and foods.

Jessica's individual and team awards include: 2012 Golden Quill Award for Most Creative Use of Technology to Tell a Story, 2012 Golden Quill Award for Best Television Website, 2012 Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Award for Best Television Website, 2011 Regional (Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey) Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Television Website, 2011 Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Award for Best Television Website and 2011 Golden Quill Award for Online Multimedia News.

Prior to joining the Web department, Jessica worked as an associate producer in the news department at WPXI-TV.

Jessica grew up in the South Hills of Pittsburgh and is a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School. She graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. While at Penn State, Jessica co-anchored the Penn State Network TV News and anchored and reported for The Centre County Report on WPSU-TV. She also spent a semester in New York City where she interned for entertainment newsmagazine, "Inside Edition."

Jessica's work was recognized in 2005 when she received the Society of Professional Journalists' National Mark of Excellence award and again in 2006 when she was selected as a National Finalist by the Broadcast Education Association for her report on local law enforcement's use of Facebook.

Jessica feels fortunate to have been able to return to Pittsburgh to begin her career.

"Having a job you enjoy makes it easy to go to work each day. I've been passionate about journalism since I was a child, interviewing neighbors in my backyard. The web has endless possibilities and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."

When she's not working, Jessica enjoys spending time with family and friends, her husband, Ric, and her Yorkie, Gracie. She also loves traveling and biking on the city’s vast riverfront trails.

In 2012, Jessica worked as the co-director of the non-profit group Miles Against Melanoma PA, raising more than $25,000 for melanoma and pancreatic cancer research happening at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.  Jessica is dedicated to supporting the fight against these diseases in memory of her father and in honor of her husband and mother, who are both cancer survivors.  She is in the process of creating her own local foundation to continue her efforts.
