Rob Johnston started working as a freelance web producer for WPXI-TV in 2009 and joined the web department as Multimedia Specialist in March of 2012.

Rob has teamed up with Carly Noel to cover the hottest events and interview the biggest celebrities for WPXI.com’s See & Be Seen section.

Rob has created, written, edited and produced popular web segments, including Rob on the Run and The Pittsburgh Food Challenge for WPXI.com.  He has also produced original content for the High School Shows, Pittsburgh’s Best, Winter Sports and Skylights sections of the WPXI-TV website.

Rob is no stranger to work in television and film. Working in freelance production, Rob has worked on projects for Travel Channel, Disney Channel, Channel 4 San Diego, The ScareHouse and a number of major motion pictures filmed in the Pittsburgh area.

Before working at WPXI-TV, Rob toured full-time as a national recording artist with his band The Switch Kids. He has embarked on several national tours across the United States, South America and Japan. Signed to a subsidiary of Warner Brothers Records, Rob wrote and co-produced several songs that were in rotation on national radio. His song “Turn It Up” was featured on Radio Disney and he has shared the stage with some of Disney’s top artists.

In 2011, Rob put his musical background to work writing, performing and co-producing the campaign theme song for WPXI’s Skylights, the No. 1 provider of high school football coverage in the Pittsburgh area.

Rob was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area and is proud to have his feet planted in his hometown once again.
