Timyka arrived at WPXI in November of 2006 as a General Assignment Reporter. Experienced with the media since an early age, Timyka has worked in a variety of locations.
After working as an intern for KYW News in her hometown of Philadelphia, she went on to be the Executive Producer for "Radio Times" -- an award-winning call-in talk show on WHYY-FM in Philly. She spent a summer as an associate producer for Talk of the Nation in Washington, D.C., as well as producing, reporting and hosting for Tri-State Media News in New Castle, Delaware, Berks County News in Reading, Pa., and WUPW-TV in Toledo, Ohio.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Timyka studied journalism and graduated with honors from Temple University.
When she is not on the street reporting news, she is involved with a number of charities and associations including the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Cancer Society, Sojourner House, the Organization of Chinese Americans, the YWCA and the National Association of Black Journalists. She is also on the Board of Directors for NHS Human Services Foundation, the parent company of Allegheny Valley Schools.
She has been honored as a Woman of Excellence by The New Pittsburgh Courier, as well as by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as one of Pittsburgh's Fifty Finest.
In her free time, you might catch her at the Capitol Grille, the Benedum, Ross Park Mall or the Pittsburgh International Airport catching a flight.
She considers Pittsburgh her second home and says, "It is a blessing to be able to do what I love every day, in a city that I love just as much. The people in this town are amazing. I love telling their stories and being part of the Pittsburgh family."
