2009 Three Rivers Regatta: Better Than Ever

PITTSBURGH -- The EQT Three Rivers Regatta is gearing up for a Fourth of July weekend extravaganza unlike any other in its 32-year history.

“Not only have we extended the event to three days, we've once again added Point State Park to the footprint," said Regatta board chairman John Bonassi.Three days of free entertainment will be capped off with the EQT Flashes of Freedom Fireworks Fantasia. And for the first time ever Zambelli will not be putting on the show.Pyrotecnico, another New Castle based company and reigning world fireworks champion, will be lighting up the sky over the point."We're definitely up for the challenge. We'll bring the best fireworks the city has ever seen,” said Pyrotecnico president Stephen Vitale.Regatta organizers said their decision not to use Zambelli was simply a matter of giving another local company the opportunity.There will also be various concerts including a show by Three Dog Night.Nik Wallenda will attempt a show-stopping 1,000-foot long walk over the Allegheny River while suspended 200 feet in the air.STORY: Nik Wallenda Talks To Channel 11 Before Walk Across RiverThe power boat races are back with the smaller vessels which haven't been here in five years.Jennifer Abney and David Johnson will anchor Channel 11’s special live coverage of the Flashes of Freedom Fireworks Fantasia, beginning at 9 p.m. on July 4.For more information and to view a schedule of events click here.
