Winners announced in Pittsburgh's Best Wings contest

PITTSBURGH — WPXI received thousands of nominations in the Pittsburgh's Best Wings contest and on Thursday the top 5 wing joints in the ‘Burgh submitted wings for a taste test at WPXI-TV.

A panel of celebrity judges put each wing to the test—and every single restaurant scored highly on taste, texture and sauce choice, making it a very tough decision for the judges.

First-place went to returning champions, Harrington’s Bar in McDonald. Excuses’ on the South Side took second-place with its grilled wings and Nox's Tavern & Grille in Blawnox placed third.

Other finalists included Big Shot Bobs in Coraopolis and Firehouse Lounge in Ambridge.

Winners were determined by a combination of taste test scores and public nomination.

How were the finalists selected?

The nomination period ended at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 28 and the Top 5 restaurants which received the most nominations were selected as our finalists. The top 5 restaurants with the most nominations were be invited to participate in a taste test at the WPXI studios.

The taste test took  place during the week of September 8. Each finalist delivered a sample of their wings for the test. If a restaurant did not show up for the taste test they were disqualified.

The winners are determined by a combination of the number of nominations received and the taste test scores.

The winners were be revealed during the week of September 8. Award plaques will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
