Sprinkle it on your food and feel fuller, that’s the claim of the weight loss product Sensa.

The company said sprinkling Sensa powder on food before you eat will suppress hunger and appetite.

Channel 11 News decided to find out it if it really works.

Three local women who want to lose weight volunteered to try the product for us.

It costs about $60 for a one-month supply.

Patty Schaffer from Carnegie lost 160 pounds when she was younger, but as she reached mid-life the pounds started creeping back.

“Now I could diet for 5 months and not lose 5 pounds,” Schaffer said.

Nights are especially tough, Shaffer said, “Once I get home from work it's like dinner and then something else, then something else.”

Holly Sonner from New Kensington is a mother of two and works two jobs.

She’s battled her weight since she was a child.

Ten years ago she had gastric band surgery and also lost 160 pounds, but she’s gained a lot of that weight back.

She wanted to try Sensa to get a jump start in her weight loss effort.

Sonner said, “I don't have to be tiny I’d just like to be average. I’m looking for it to help get that initial 10 to 15 pounds off to get the ball rolling.”

Carrie Harrison from Moon Township has tried pretty much every diet out there.

She said, “Being a single mom, working full time there are a lot of meals we eat on the road, so fast food even if you think it's healthy usually isn't.”

After two weeks using the Sensa powder, we checked in to see how the women were doing.

Shaffer and Harrison were seeing results.

Shaffer said she felt fuller and even walked by doughnuts at work without taking one.

She lost 6 pounds and said she feels so good she’s started walking to the mile to work and home.

At first Harrison said she didn’t notice a difference in her appetite

Harrison said, “I didn’t really feel like it did anything. Didn't feel a change in cravings or how much I ate. I thought maybe I’m not using enough, so I started using more on each thing I ate.”

That seemed to work, she said, “I did notice I was feeling fuller sooner. I don't know that it took away all of the sweet cravings, but I haven't been snacking before bedtime.”

After 2 weeks she had lost 5 pounds.

Sonner said the powder doesn’t seem to be working for her.

She said, “It's not doing anything with making me fuller. I sprinkle it on and eat and it hasn't made much difference.”

All three women said they will continue using the Sensa powder for the full month.
