Fort Pitt Bridge, Tunnel Construction Under Way

Fort Pitt Road MapThe second phase of the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel project is under way.

The inbound lanes of the tunnel are closed. Those lanes are being detoured through the outbound lanes of the bridge and tunnel.

PennDOT leaders and City Councilman Bob O'Connor unveiled the official 2003 alternative route map for the final phase of the project.

And get detailed directions as drivers encounter a big change in traffic patterns.

Outbound I-279 Map Outbound Alternate Route via I-279
Follow I-279 south to the Route 65/West End Bridge exit.
Cross the West End Bridge and follow signs for Route 51 South around the West End Circle.
Follow signs for I-279 south/Airport.

Outbound I-376 Map Outbound Alternate Route via I- 376 (Parkway East)
Follow I-376 (Parkway East) to the Fort Duquesne Bridge.
Cross the Ft. Duquesne Bridge and follow to the West End Bridge.
Cross the West End Bridge and follow signs for Route 51 South around the West End Circle.
Follow signs for the airport.

Outbound Boulevard Of The Allies Map Outbound Alternate Route via Blvd. of the Allies
From I-376 (Parkway East) follow to the Boulevard of the Allies exit.
Exit to the Liberty Bridge and cross the Liberty Bridge to enter the Liberty Tunnels.
Once through the tunnels follow signs for Route 51 North to I-279 South/Airport.

Inbound North Route 51 Map Inbound Alternate Route via Route 51 North
From the Parkway West, take the West End/Route 51 North exit.
Follow Route 51 North to the West End Circle.
Cross over the West End Bridge and follow signs for I-279 North.

Inbound I-376 Detour Map Inbound Alternate Route to I- 376 (Parkway East)
From the Parkway West, follow the traffic pattern through the outbound side of the Fort Pitt Tunnel.
After crossing the lower level of the Fort Pitt Bridge, follow signs for I-376 (Parkway East).
