Fort Pitt Tunnel, Bridge Construction Deadline Extended
Weather Could Be Only Delay In Project

PITTSBURGH -- The deadline for completion of the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel project has been pushed back a few weeks.
PennDOT is now giving Trumbull Corp. until Sept. 6 to finish the project.
That gives the contractor time to install special barriers to provide a better view of downtown Pittsburgh.
The remaining work includes painting the bridge and pouring concrete.
Both Trumbull and PennDOT believe only the weather could delay progress.
Instruction coordinator David Gardner said, "We're very confident that we'll meet our contract date of September 6 for this project."
Work is also being done inside the tunnel after this fire damaged it in May.
PennDOT said that won't affect the completion date.
