Glimpses Into Algerian Gas Compound Suggest Fierce Fighting

Finally a full extent of the fighting here becomes more clear. On Thursday, nearly two weeks after a government assault ended a four-day hostage crisis at the In Amenas gas compound in Algeria, the media got their first close look at the damage. Up to 37 foreigners died after troops stormed the complex ... 29 hostage-takers were also killed. The charred remains of the vehicles used by Islamist militants suggest the fighting to end the siege was fierce.
