Neighborhoods Under Water After Flash Floods

6 PM UPDATE: PennDOT says all lanes of I-79 have re-opened and there will be no restrictions tonight.
4:30 PM UPDATE: The left southbound lane on I-79 at the Mt. Nebo interchange is reopened. The northbound local lane is expected to reopen by 4:45 p.m. to ease rush hour traffic and will close again at 7 p.m. to allow flood clean up efforts to be completed.
Six counties were all under flash flood warnings Thursday afternoon.One of the worst-hit areas was Aliquippa, Beaver County.Flash flooding shut down part of a major highway in the area.Interstate 79 closed in both directions between the I-279 Interchange and Neville Island Bridge.The storms knocked down some utility lines.The power lines have since been removed from the roadway.PennDOT said most of the flooding happened at exit 68.Right now, the road is open.Flash floods also hit Shaler Township hard.Hazel and Linden streets had to be closed while crews worked on the sewer lines.There is no word on when those roads will reopen.The rain left a muddy mess in Washington County.The heavy rain isn't just bad for drivers.Channel 11 was told multiple homes have flooded basements throughout the area.For continuous flood coverage watch Channel 11 News.
