Kevin Benson is the Storm Team 11 Meteorologist and co-anchor for Channel 11 News Saturday Morning and Channel 11 News Sunday Morning. He is also the meteorologist for the weekend editions of Channel 11 News at 6 and 11 PM.Kevin joined Channel 11 in September 1987 as a part-time weekend weathercaster. Born and raised in Brockway, Pennsylvania, Kevin attended from Gannon University and started his career in radio in Erie, Pennsylvania. Kevin worked at radio stations in Dubois and Erie, Pennsylvania, including WJET radio and TV in Erie. He came to Pittsburgh to work at WTAE Radio before joining the Channel 11 News team.In 2003, Kevin completed the meteorology training program from Mississippi State University and received a certificate in broadcast meteorology. Kevin is also a member of the National Weather Association, the American Meteorological Society and also holds the AMS seal of approval.Kevin is most recognized for his round-the clock coverage of the Blizzard of '93, one of the biggest storms to ever hit western Pennsylvania. He was on air reporting the weather as nearly two feet of snow fell in just two days.
He is involved with St. Barnabas Presents for Patients, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Lupus Foundation, and the Salvation Army."I think the most important thing any television station does is warn people of severe weather—to help protect and keep safe families and prevent loss of life and property," Kevin says.
