Coldest air of the season spills into Pittsburgh next week

PITTSBURGH — The first arctic outbreak of the season will engulf much of the United States, including the Pittsburgh area, by late next week.

Much of the nation will start next weekend below freezing as the coldest air so far this season spills south from Canada beginning early next week.

The west will get the first shot of cold air with the rest of the nation in it's icy grip by the weekend.

The Channel 11 viewing area will see wind chills in the single digits to start next weekend and high temperatures struggling to get back to the freezing mark Friday and Saturday.

Lake effect snow will kick in with the colder air giving a seasonal look to much of the area with on and off snow showers into the early part of the following week.

While it is way too early to talk about snow amounts, much of the area should see the ground whiten up from time to time from December 9 to 13.
