Rounds of storms causing flood warnings, advisories throughout region

PITTSBURGH — UPDATE 11:30 PM:

Channel 11's Shelley Bortz reported flooding on the opposite end of 2nd Street in Smithton. She said a small portion of that road is closed, but cars are still able to travel through the area.

Connelsville Mayor Greg Lincoln wrote on his Facebook page that Mountz Creek is "about two feet from flood stage." He said if need be the city will evacuate all of the homes in the "Dutch Bottom" area.

Lincoln said residents in Connelsville should stay off the roads, and first responders are ready to handle flood-related incidents.

UPDATE 10:05 PM:

Investigators have been receiving multiple flooding calls throughout Westmoreland County -- mainly in the southern parts of the area -- from Smithton to Donegal Township.

Investigators said there is "activity" on the street near Jones Brewing Company in Smithton.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

A series of showers and thunderstorms will roll through the area into Sunday as an unsettled weekend continues.

Several waves of energy rode along a front draped across our region Saturday. While this triggered several rounds of showers and thunderstorms Saturday, the rest of the weekend will not be a washout.

Saturday started mostly dry before thunderstorms moved into the area during the afternoon. They continued into the evening as sporadic storms.

Thunderstorms tapered off after sunset Saturday evening, and much of the area will remain quiet overnight.

TRENDING NOW:

Another round of showers and thunderstorms will develop during the day Sunday.

Showers are possible at any point in time during the day. The best chance for thunderstorms will be during the afternoon hours Sunday.

Once again, a few of the storms will have at least 40 mph winds and very heavy rain.
