Trying to survive the holidays without packing on a few extra pounds might seem impossible, but it's not. Just be mindful as you navigate the calorie-laden minefield of the season, and try these tips.
Eat something before you hit the parties so you don't stuff yourself at the snack table. And when you do find yourself at the buffet, focus on raw fruits and veggies and go easy on the salty and sugary foods, cream sauces and cheeses. Pay attention to what and how much you're putting in your mouth. Don't hang out in the food room, either.
Balance things out. Go for a walk after dinner. If you eat rich foods one night, run a little longer the next day or head to the gym.
Make sure to make exercise a priority even during this busy season. Go for a bike ride during lunch hour. Walk around during a phone call instead of sitting at your desk. Have a "roving" business meeting on the trail.
If you're driving or flying somewhere, buy healthy snacks to take with you instead of succumbing to fast food.
And remember: Now is not the time to try to drop weight. Just maintaining is a good goal.
