Jemel Sessoms: I'm back!

After two long weeks of training I am finally back in action here at WPXI. It feels great to be back, but what I experienced while I was gone was amazing. I had my Annual Training with my unit in the United States Army National Guard. While away at training in Fort AP Hill, VA I got to shoot a countless amount of times as well as a different amount of weapons. From the shotgun to pistol to the M-4 rifle to the M240 and the .50CAL, I was able to shoot them all during my training. I had a lot of fun but not a lot of sleep.

I had 21 hour days of working and sleeping in the field for a week. As I am being molded into the Broadcast Journalism field, I am sure these hours are pretty common, so I should be well prepared for that.

Yesterday I covered my first event after being away at training. Denny and I went to Jergel’s for Courtney Kates Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser. I got to meet a lot of people and almost had the chance to meet Roy Jones Jr. but unfortunately, he was unable to attend. I was really pumped when I heard he was going to be at the event to sign his gloves that were being auctioned. Although he wasn’t able to make it to the event, I still had fun and I enjoyed the complimentary water on such a hot night. Tomorrow will be another great experience when I go to Aliquippa High School for the NFL Football Camp where Larry Fitzgerald will be. Until next week, I’ll enjoy my birthday which is today, have a great weekend.
