Jemel Sessoms: My sizzling summer blog

How sweet it is to be back interning with WPXI, and let me say it feels great. This past week I had the chance to cover the Darrelle Reevis Skills and Drills Clinic at Aliquippa High School. From the moment I arrived there was a lot of energy and excitement in the air, from not only the kids, but the different NFL Players as well.

I got to meet and see players like Darelle Reevis, Ty Law, Laveranues Coles, and Larry Fitzgerald. As the kids were going as hard as they could in each drill at the clinic, these NFL Players were not only motivating them but were also engaged in helping them become better players.

My favorite part of the clinic was the “Smoke House” race. Each camper was to race to see who was the fastest. They ran in separate skilled heats running 40 yard sprints, and let me say these kids can run. Not only was I impressed with the speed, but the NFL players were quite impressed as well. It made me want to lace my shoes up and try to run against them. I was a speedster in high school as well. But being that I had my work clothes on; khakis, a polo and polo shoes to bring it together, my showing wasn’t going to be a good one.

This had to be my favorite assignment to do. It was almost like a birthday gift since it was the day after my birthday. I’ll catch you all next week as I talk about my Kenny Chesney and Arts festival experience. Until next time enjoy this beautiful weather and get ready for the fourth of July.
