Greetings, Pittsburgh! My name is Brian Bayer, and I’m looking forward to a great summer at WPXI-TV as part of the digital team.

Before we get into the summer fun, let’s get the business out of the way. Since I’ll be getting to know a lot of you, you deserve to know a little bit about me, too.

I’m a junior at John Carroll University in Cleveland. In addition to pursuing a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish, I am a self-proclaimed ambassador of the Black and Gold. Very few people are brave enough to wave their Terrible Towels in Browns country, but I like to think that when it comes to boldly facing the “Dog Pound,” nobody is prouder of our six Super Bowls and three Stanley Cups.

If you’ve heard of JCU, you might know that we are the Jesuit university in Cleveland. However, in my experience, I have learned that most people don’t really know if a Jesuit is an expensive German car or a finely textured maple syrup. Well, it’s neither. Actually, it’s an order of the Church, which means we all love to do service.

So in the spirit of being a “man for others,” I am very excited to head to El Salvador this week to teach English as a second language and help advance the less developed parts of the world. (Okay, so technically we only teach English a couple of the mornings, and the rest of the time we spend playing soccer with the kids and giving them piggyback rides, but that can be our little secret.)

After I get back from that, my biggest priority will be getting to know you, my Pittsburgh neighbors, a little bit better. If you see me wearing a tie, that either means I’m bussing your tables at Bravo Cucina Italiana or making you famous on WPXI.com. So wave me over.  I can either get you more linguini or make you a celebrity, but you come out a winner either way.

And, if you see me without a shirt, it’s probably because I’m out training for my last season of cross country after a decade of distance running. So if you like getting your heartrate up, go ahead and join me for a few miles; I always welcome the company.

But I will say this: If you see me either running with a tie on or shirtlessly interviewing somebody, just point me back to my car because that probably means I’ve confused my responsibilities.

So now that you know who I am, let’s get out there and enjoy it while we can.
