30 rabbits surrendered to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, will be up for adoption

PITTSBURGH — Thirty angora rabbits were surrendered by their owner, who was unable to care for them, to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

According to a news release, the rabbits are now receiving care and are in good condition. They will be given vaccines, get spayed or neutered and microchipped to prepare them to be adopted.

HARP believes some of the rabbits could be available for adoption in the coming days. They caution potential adopters that angora rabbits need a great deal of care and attention, including:

  • Daily grooming, which requires special grooming tools and regular brushing, or being shaved by a professional.
  • Large enclosures due to their larger size.
  • Very clean environments due to their long fur.
  • Extra fiber in their diet because they are more likely to ingest their own hair.
  • Care from an exotic vet is required.

If you are interested in donating to support the rabbits:

If you are interested in adopting one of the rabbits, you can contact HARP’s adoptions team by calling (412)345-7300 ext. 215 or emailing adopt@humaneanimalrescue.org.
