Bayer opens raw material hub to serve Pittsburgh-region operations

Bayer’s Pittsburgh operations are expanding again with the official opening Tuesday of its new raw material hub in Butler County.

The German-based health care company has long been a major employer in the region, and has three major sites in Indianola, O’Hara and Saxonburg. There are about 1,900 employees between the three sites, including its radiology division that is run out of Pittsburgh.

That’s where the new raw material hub comes in. It has 60,000 square feet of storage capability to serve Bayer’s operations in the region. That includes the plastic parts like disposal units, syringes, piping and other molded plastics that are made by suppliers in Pennsylvania and are used at high volumes in Bayer’s products.
