Car plows into vehicles parked at Brighton Heights auto shop

PITTSBURGH — A driver came down California and Benton avenues, missed the turn and then plowed into three parked cars at Ray Wash Auto Service in Brighton Heights.

Police responded around 1:30 a.m. Thursday and found three totaled cars. Mechanics at the shop say a Dodge Charger, Mazda SUV and a Dodge Caravan were damaged from the impact.

Darnell Jackson said he saw the wreckage on Channel 11 News. He anxiously realized the crash happened at his mechanic’s lot in Brighton Heights.

“I was just thinking I got the car fixed and it may have been hit,’ said Jackson.

Jackson’s car was spared. The driver of the car refused medical treatment and left after he was questioned, according to witnesses. The driver’s car was also heavily damaged and towed away.

“It looked like a bunch of cars pushed together. I saw one car with a broken window. It was pretty bad,” Jackson said.

Neighbors said the scene is a familiar one. A couple of years ago, the same thing happened. The driver’s insurance covered things back then. This time witnesses tell Channel 11 the driver showed proof of insurance.

The intersection is clearly a busy one, but is it dangerous?

“We live in Pittsburgh. We have a lot of odd intersections. Just to be honest with you. This one is not more dangerous than any other,” said Jackson.

Jackson was relieved to learn no one was hurt.

“It’s a miracle no one got hurt. That’s the most important thing,” he said.
