Elizabeth Forward High School students to return to building for first time since fire

ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — It was Feb. 12 when a massive fire tore through the auditorium at Elizabeth Forward High School.

It destroyed the theater, music wing, and media center along with band instruments and uniforms.

The entire building filled with smoke. The auditorium had to be demolished.

The fire forced the district to transition to remote learning.

The Allegheny County Health Deptartment inspected the building and approved the reopening for Tuesday.

Channel 11 talked with a ninth-grade student who’s looking forward to going back to a school that has undergone some changes.

“It’s definitely different navigating through the school. That’s what they’re going to help us with tomorrow,” said Edward Denney.

Daily air quality testing will continue at the high school, we’ve been told.
