Woman in critical condition after being hit by dump truck in Forest Hills

FOREST HILLS, Pa. — A woman working at a construction site in Forest Hills was hit on the job on Tuesday. Now, the community say the road project has been nothing but trouble.

Barry Prior, who lives and works in Forest Hills, witnessed the traffic along Ardmore Boulevard and Lafayette Road Tuesday morning after police say a 30-year-old woman working as a flagger at a construction site was hit by a dump truck as it was backing up.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

“When I saw it backed up, I just headed up another way,” said Prior. “It’s a problem for sure. People are being delayed, and it’s confusing. And sometimes you don’t know if you’re in the right lane. I can see why there would be more accidents.”

The project’s prime contractor, Joseph B. Fay Company, sent WPXI a statement about the incident that says:

“We are deeply saddened that a subcontractor’s worker was injured on our job site. The incident is currently under further investigation.”

The latest accident is the third incident to happen in the busy construction zone in the last month.

Two weeks ago, a person was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car along Route 30 in Forest Hills, and back in May, a vehicle rolled over into construction.

“I’d say people that have been in accidents — there will probably be lawsuits because of how it’s marked,” Prior commented.

The almost $14 million dollar improvement project that began months ago has also caused major traffic restrictions.

“The people that know about the construction are trying to avoid it, obviously, because they get stuck in traffic,” said Anthony Roman, owner of Roman Bistro on Ardmore Boulevard.

Roman tells Channel 11 that the rehab project is not only a safety hazard, but it’s also bad for business.

“It’s definitely impacting business. What we are worried about is what it will do in the future, because it’s coming down the road on Ardmore, and therefore they will take a lot of our parking spots, too.”

Roman Bistro will be open throughout the duration of the project and has even secured extra parking behind their building and behind the gas station next door.
