Pittsburgh Fire Chief involved in crash on the way to fire in Edgebrook

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Chief was involved in a collision on the way to a fire in Edgebrook.

Units responded to the crash just after 5 p.m. and located a car and an SUV upon arrival.

According to a release from police, the driver of the car had a head injury but was not taken to the hospital.

The driver of the SUV was chief Darryl Jones, who was responding to a nearby fire in the 900 block of Berkshire Avenue.

Chief Jones had lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash.

Police said that Jones was experiencing some shoulder pain after the incident. He was taken to the hospital to undergo drug testing, per City of Pittsburgh employee policy.

No one was injured in the fire. Police said a Zone 6 officer suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital.

The causes of both the crash and the fire are under investigation.
