Pittsburgh hosts first Global Clean Energy Action Forum

PITTSBURGH — Thousands of people and dozens of companies flocked to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center as part of the Global Clean Energy Action Forum.

The conference is the first of its kind and brought companies from both near and far.

Battery company EOS is from Turtle Creek.

“The sun doesn’t always shine and the wind doesn’t always blow. So, sometimes you produce energy when there’s no demand. What our product allows you to do is capture and store it, and put it back on the grid when demand exists,” CEO Joseph Mastangelo said.

Carbon Clean came to the Steel City from across the pond. The U.K.-based company aims to capture carbon from both the steel and oil and gas industries.

“Once that carbon is captured, it is either sequestered or utilized for another use,” Laura Gillions said.

Other companies focus on everyday things like cars. One company is working on ways to reduce the weight and cost of cars through composite materials. Another showcased electric semitrucks.

“All of our members have brought EV trucks to show, and convince the public that EV trucking is here today and ready to go,” John Boesel, CEO of Calstart, said.
