TARGET 11 EXCLUSIVE: Pittsburgh Controller’s longtime assistant resigns over controversial 2nd job

PITTSBURGH — Target 11 has learned of a big shake-up in the Pittsburgh Controller’s Office, just months before the May primary.

Controller Michael Lamb, who’s running for Allegheny County Executive, is the financial watchdog in the city of Pittsburgh, but today he told Target 11 that he was unaware his longtime administrative assistant was working a second job with another government entity.

Lamb said that is against city rules and regulations.

He said city employees may not work for another government entity while they are employed by the city of Pittsburgh.

This all began when Target 11 reached out to Lamb this afternoon and advised him that information had surfaced that his assistant, Gina DiNardo, was working as a paraprofessional and cafeteria playground monitor in the Peters Twp School District in Washington County.

Lamb said he was not aware that she was working another job.

A short time later, Lamb reached out to Target 11 and said he had confirmed what we told him.

He said that’s not allowed under the city code and he gave her the option to resign.  Lamb said she did resign.

Lamb said it’s not against regulations to have a second job, but he said the city of Pittsburgh employees are not allowed to work for another government entity.

DiNardo had worked in the Controller’s office for 15 years.

Lamb is in a crowded field of democrats running for Allegheny County Executive.

The primary in that race is set for May 16.
