Leaves don’t cooperate for Gateway Clipper event as fall slow to arrive

FREEPORT, Pa. — If you’ve ever been on a Gateway Clipper cruise, you know the ships don’t exactly go very fast. But that slow ride up and down the river is apparently still quicker than the weather this fall. The fall foliage wasn’t exactly showing up during a special leaf-peeping tour in Armstrong County earlier this month.

According to our partners at TribLIVE.com, the much-anticipated event took place on the Allegheny River in Armstrong County. Instead of launching from Kittanning and cruising around Ford City, the event launched from Freeport due to work on a nearby river lock.

“You roll the dice because you plan a Clipper tour months in advance, and there’s only a three-week period to see fall leaves,” said Chris Ziegler, president of the Armstrong County Tourist Bureau.

The three special tours sold out in 10 days over the summer.
