Machinery catches fire inside West Mifflin industrial plant, creating air quality concerns

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Machinery caught fire inside two areas of an industrial plant, creating poor air quality in West Mifflin early Wednesday morning, police said.

The fires were reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. at TMS International on Delwar Road. According to the company’s website, it is a “provider of on-site, industrial steel mill services for steelmakers around the world.”

Aerial fire trucks were used to spray water on the plant and scrap metal from above. The fires were brought under control by 5:30 a.m., though air quality concerns remained, officials said.

Roads in the area of Delwar Road were blocked while crews battled the fire.
