Obituary for Pittsburgh-area man says Steelers going into OT against Lions ‘was all he could take’

PITTSBURGH — Wayne Olexa passed away “after a long bout with the Steelers” according to his family.

Olexa, 76, was from Crafton and originally Swissvale. His obituary said he was “at home with family when they [the Steelers] went into overtime against the 0-8 Detroit Lions and that was all he could take.”

Olexa’s family said he was a high school sports standout and was inducted into several sports Hall of Fames. He also loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors, something he passed down to his children and grandchildren.

His obituary also said Olexa “had a charisma and charm that was undeniable,” another thing he apparently passed down to his surviving family.
