PITTSBURGH — 11 Cares and our partners – Dollar Bank, Duquesne Light Company and Gateway Health – are continuing to help feed our neighbors in need.
We’ve teamed up with 412 Food Rescue to deliver surplus food to nonprofit organizations that serve those who need it most.
412 Food Rescue partners with grocery stores, restaurants, caterers and farms that donate surplus food.
Using technology, volunteers – known as food rescue heroes – are mobilized to rescue and deliver food to nonprofit partners, including housing authorities, churches and community centers. In some cases, food is delivered directly to the homes of the food insecure.
412 Food Rescue says it was founded due to the disconnect between food waste, hunger and environmental sustainability. Up to 40-percent of food is wasted globally, the organization says.
