Powerball adding third weekly drawing, new chance to win $10 million

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Powerball players are getting an extra chance each week to win, as well as a new “Double-Play” option with a top prize of $10 million.

Monday drawings are being added to the already existing Wednesday and Saturday drawings, starting Aug. 23, the Pennsylvania Lottery announced Tuesday.

“This change will help us give our players exactly what they’ve told us they want -- larger, faster-growing jackpots,” Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko said in a statement.

The Double-Play option will also start Aug. 23 for an additional $1 per play. With Double-Play, players will get another chance to win with their Powerball numbers through a separate drawing with a top cash prize of $10 million.

Double-Play drawings will be held after every Powerball drawing, lottery officials said. Powerball tickets that include the Double-Play add-on will be eligible to win prizes in both drawings.

The Double-Play drawing will not be televised, but it will be livestreamed on Powerball.com and available to watch on the Pennsylvania Lottery’s website.
