National Pasta Day

UPMC Children’s Hospital recognizes Brett Keisel

A dedication ceremony was held at UPMC Children’s Hospital in Lawrenceville on Wednesday to recognize Brett Keisel for his “10 Years, 10 Beards, $1 Million” efforts through his annual Shear Da Beard fundraiser.

For the past 10 years, Keisel has hosted the annual event, which has benefited UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh’s division of hematology/oncology.

A mural is now up inside the hospital recognizing the former Pittsburgh Steeler.

“The Voice” RETURNS for season 19

The four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series “The Voice” returns Monday night on Channel 11.

Grammy Award winner and multi-platinum global superstar Gwen Stefani is returning to “The Voice” to join acclaimed coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Blake Shelton in the iconic red chairs for Season 19. Carson Daly returns as host.

In addition to this, expect to see some production changes as the competition takes COVID-19 safety precautions on set, such as a virtual audience with fans joining around the country and judges coming up with some unique ways to welcome contestants to their teams.

Sliders Curling to open for another season

Pittsburgh’s only competitive bar-styled ice curling rink is opening in Millvale for a second year.

Sliders Curling will open Nov. 25 with updates, including extended time on sessions, new mini games and an improved surface.

During the sessions of two to 16, people can learn the basics of curling while in a social atmosphere. Then, they can put their skills to the test and compete in a friendly competition with a gold medal on the line.

New French creperie to open next week

An authentic French crêperie, will soon call Mt. Lebanon home! Mel’s Petit Cafe announced its opening for Oct. 20.

The new cafe will feature a plethora of homemade baked goods including sweet crepes and savory crepes (galettes) made with buckwheat flour (gluten free). In addition to crepes, the menu will include homemade waffles often enjoyed in France for a sweet snack, coffee and tea.

Everything will be made fresh in the shop to keep it authentic, and it will have a friendly atmosphere.
