North Korea summit: Late-night hosts flame Trump for praising Kim Jong Un

President Trump's summit with Kim Jong Un provided ample material for late-night hosts' monologues on Tuesday.

On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert was not pleased with how Trump courted the North Korean dictator.

"Now, here's the deal, okay: Kim got U.S. security guarantees," he told his audience. "But in exchange, he agreed to work toward de-nuclearization of the Korean peninsula, but that was just reaffirming an earlier agreement he already had with South Korea. It's like Trump saw North and South Korea getting together and was like, "That looks good, who's up for a three-way? I'm a selfish lover.' "

Colbert also took issue with the fact that Trump told a reporter that he was impressed by Kim Jong Un leading his country at 26 years of age.

“You don’t give dictators points for being young!" he said. "That’s like saying, ‘You know, Vlad the Impaler became ruler at age 20. Nobody talks about that. Everyone gets all hung up on the impaling part, not how young he was. He was the Mozart of sticking wood through people!'"

Meanwhile, as part of his "A Closer Look" segment on Late Night, Seth Meyers commented that the two leaders "look like they shop at a store called Business Pajamas."

"Trump and Kim then sat down for a one-on-one meeting, and look at Kim’s face — is it just me, or is even he confused at how he got here? It looks like they got set up on a blind date by their weirdest friend. Oh what, they were?” Meyers said, speaking about Dennis Rodman, as a photo of him appeared on camera.

Meyers then continued his criticism of the North Korean leader.

"This is a guy who starves his own citizens, and assassinates people with anti-aircraft guns," he said. "You’re talking about him like he started Apple in his garage. But I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that Trump’s idea of talent is getting rich by taking over your dad’s business. Trump was born on third base, whereas Kim was born on third base and then shot the third baseman. In fact, Trump seemed as interested in looking forward at potential business opportunities in North Korea as he was in getting Kim to give up his nuclear weapons.”

As for other late night appearances, Jimmy Fallon compared the leaders' meeting to The Bachelor, while Trevor Noah criticized Trump's "condominium huckster" deal.
