Police: Driver leads officer on chase in stolen car

HAZELWOOD, Pa. — Police are searching for a man they said led officers on a chase in a stolen car in Hazelwood late Wednesday night.

Investigators said the incident began with a carjacking outside of a firehouse on Flowers Avenue.

The victim immediately called 911 and much of Allegheny County was put on alert. A Homestead police officer spotted the car and police then chased the suspect’s vehicle to East Tenth Avenue and Martha Street in Munhall.

“It’s a dangerous situation. The neighborhood in which this happened has pretty tight streets and that’s a dead-end street where he went up. I’m sure he didn’t know that, and once he got there, he didn’t know where to go,” Munhall police Chief Patrick Campbell said.

The driver got out of the car and took off running. An underage woman who was in the car was questioned, but later released.

Officers said they’re still searching for the driver.

No injuries were reported during the incident, but the driver did hit two parked cars.

“It was 1 o’clock at night, luckily it wasn’t earlier in the night when kids would have been outside playing,” Campbell said.

Anyone with information on the driver’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.
