7 years later, fallen officer honored at annual service in Penn Hills

The family of a fallen officer and his brothers in blue braved a cold rain to honor his memory Tuesday.

Officer Michael Crawshaw died seven years ago in the line of duty. Fellow officers, friends and family came together to remember him at an annual memorial service in Penn Hills.

"It still is very heartwarming to see all of Mike's friends and fellow officers that still come out every year to honor his memory,” said his mother, Linda Crawshaw.

Crawshaw was waiting for backup outside a Penn Hills home when Ronald Robinson sprayed his cruiser with bullets from an AK-47.

A jury found Robinson guilty of Crawshaw’s murder and for the murder of another man who police found inside the home.

Crawshaw’s family said it has rained for every memorial service they’ve held.

“Any time there’s a fun occasion in his memory like a golf outing or a quad run the weather is impeccable. I think this is Mike's way of telling us that we need to go on and enjoy life,” Linda Crawshaw said.

Robinson is serving two life sentences in prison. The bullet that hit Crawshaw traveled through the door of his police cruiser. That door is now in a crime museum in Washington, D.C.
