Blaze Breaks Out In Scott Twp. As Firefighters Train Across Street

CARNEGIE, Pa.,None — Firefighters in Scott Township were busy Wednesday evening battling a blaze at a furniture store across the street from their station.

The blaze began shortly before 7 p.m. in the 100 block of Vanadium Road.

The fire damaged Ed's Woodshed, which sells fireplaces, wood stoves and gas grills, authorities said. The office area of the building was damaged but the showroom was not affected.

Members of the Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department were at the station for a training exercise when they noticed the flames.

"We're less than 100-feet away," said firefighter Jason Dolence. "So, we were on the scene right away. Fire started in the basement, it appears, worked its way through the wall and up into the ceiling."

The business is family-owned, and there were a lot of tears as people watched the building burn. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
